SaaS and MVP development, from idea to a product in production

SaaS and MVP development is the work of turning a product idea into software that customers can sign up for, pay for and rely on. StackEndBox does this for founders and companies that want a working first version in production, built by an implementation partner rather than a prototype that has to be rewritten.

A SaaS product is more than its main screen. It needs sign-in, roles, billing, an admin side and the plumbing that keeps all of it dependable. We build those parts as one coherent system.

Choose an available time on our booking page, or email a brief if you prefer. No credentials or private records are needed to start. A booked call is a scoping conversation, not a project commitment.

What should be in an MVP development scope?

A useful first milestone names one customer, the task they can complete and the evidence needed to accept it. This example is a small appointment-management product. It is deliberately illustrative and is not a claim that a named customer bought this system. Payments, a marketplace, mobile apps and AI recommendations are excluded unless separately scoped.

Illustrative SaaS MVP milestone, acceptance and handover
DecisionScope to agreeEvidence to request
First outcomeAn authorised business user creates an available appointment and a customer requests it.Demonstrate the complete journey, including a slot becoming unavailable. Agree how saved state is shown after refresh.
Failure boundaryHandle a delayed external notification without pretending the request was lost.Temporarily fail the notification in a safe environment. The operator should see saved state and a controlled recovery route, rather than ask a developer to edit the database.
Ownership and accessDocument project-specific rights, third-party licences and account controllers. The buyer verifies repository and hosting access. An authorised engineer runs the milestone from a fresh checkout using documented prerequisites and securely supplied credentials.
Cost and changeSeparate the build, hosting, vendor usage and post-launch support. Name the change-approval owner.Record provider limits and an agreed operating-cost assumption. A new workflow or user type triggers a scope decision instead of silently expanding the fixed milestone.

Operational acceptance does not prove market demand, legal compliance or payment-provider eligibility. Dates and prices are agreed after reviewing the actual scope. Keep an existing prototype where it serves the milestone rather than assuming a complete rewrite.

Generate and download a local project-scope starter. Use it to prepare a non-confidential brief, then discuss the specific milestone with us. The tool sends no project information.

What we build

What you get

Start from your prototype, not a presumed rebuild

If you already have a prototype, the first scoped engagement can review one critical customer journey, the code and dependencies, data ownership and deployment access. We document what can stay, what needs repair and which unknowns prevent a reliable build estimate. Access is arranged securely after scope is agreed, never through a public enquiry.

For a new product, start with one user and one useful workflow. Agree a demonstrable milestone, acceptance conditions, exclusions and a handover in accounts you control. Discovery, production engineering and ongoing support are separate scope decisions. We do not promise a fixed launch date, fundraising outcome or revenue before reviewing the work.

Build, buy or hybrid?

Not every product idea needs custom software on day one. Here is how the options compare.

When not to hire us. We are probably not the right choice if you are still testing demand and a landing page or no-code prototype would answer that, if you need a fixed outcome without discussing scope, or if the product is mostly content that a template site can carry.

What affects the cost of an MVP or SaaS build

We do not publish prices, because cost follows scope. These are the drivers that move it most.

MVP partner checklist: questions to ask before you choose

Use these questions with any developer or agency, including us. They are questions to ask, not claims about our results. Ask us any of them on a call.

  1. What exactly will the first release include, and what is deliberately left out? Is it written down?
  2. Who owns the code, designs and data, and when does ownership pass to you?
  3. Will the hosting, database, payment and domain accounts be in your name?
  4. How is the work split into stages, and what can you see and test at the end of each?
  5. Who will actually do the work, and who will you speak to day to day?
  6. Has the team built products like yours, and what can they show you about their part in them?
  7. How is the price structured: fixed scope, time and materials, or a mix? What happens when scope changes?
  8. What are the biggest technical risks, and what are the options for handling each?
  9. What stack will be used, and could another team take the code over later?
  10. What happens after launch: fixes, monitoring, handover notes and further development?
  11. What went wrong on a past project, and what did they change because of it?

How we work

We start by understanding the business, users and desired outcome, then define the experience and technical approach before building. Critical flows, permissions and integrations are tested before the product ships, and we keep iterating once it is live.

Frequently asked questions

What is an MVP?
A minimum viable product is the smallest working version of a product that lets real users get value from it, so you can learn what to build next.
What is MVP development?
MVP development is building the smallest working version of a product that real users can sign up for and use, so the next decisions rest on actual use rather than guesses. With StackEndBox it includes the parts a live product needs, such as accounts, billing and an admin side, not only a clickable prototype.
How much does it cost to build an MVP or SaaS product?
It depends on scope, so we do not quote a figure without one. The main drivers are the number of workflows and user roles, billing complexity, integrations, data migration, design depth and compliance needs, listed under “What affects the cost of an MVP or SaaS build”. After a scoping conversation we agree the first release in writing.
How do I choose an MVP development partner?
Ask for the first release to be written down, and ask who owns the code and accounts, how the work is staged, who does it, how pricing handles change and what support follows launch. The checklist on this page lists the questions to ask.
How do I verify that I can operate the MVP after handover?
Legal ownership and operational access are separate. Agree rights to project-specific code and third-party licence limits in writing. Then have an authorised engineer who did not build the milestone run it from the repository, deploy to a safe environment and follow the recovery notes. Confirm control of hosting, database, domain and provider accounts. A live demo alone does not establish those conditions.
Do you build the whole product or only part of it?
Either. We can build the full product from idea to production, or take on a defined part of an existing one.
Can you work with an existing codebase?
Yes. If you already have a product, we can review it and strengthen it rather than starting over. If the foundations are the problem, we will say so and explain the options.
Who owns the code and intellectual property?
Ownership of the code and other deliverables is set out in the written project scope before work begins. Open-source and third-party components keep their own licences, and we point out the significant ones.
How do we start?
Book a call or email us with what needs to work. We respond with the questions that shape scope, and agree the first release in writing before building.
How do you handle customer data and security?
In general terms: credentials stay out of source code, people and services get only the access they need, and what is stored and where is agreed with you early. We do not claim certifications; tell us about any compliance requirements up front and we will say plainly what we can support.
Can the product integrate with the tools we already use?
Usually. Payment providers, CRMs, email and analytics tools commonly offer APIs, and we assess each integration during scoping.
Do you support the product after launch?
We can keep working with you after launch on fixes, monitoring and the next features. The arrangement is agreed separately from the initial build.
