Custom software, web applications and internal platforms
Custom software development means building an application around how your business actually runs, such as a CRM, an internal platform or a customer-facing web app, when no off-the-shelf tool fits. StackEndBox does this for companies that have outgrown spreadsheets, shared inboxes or tools they are bending to fit.
We build management systems with roles, records, reporting and an audit trail, and customer-facing web applications that are fast, responsive and carefully engineered.
Choose an available time on our booking page, or email a brief if you prefer. No credentials or private records are needed to start. A booked call is a scoping conversation, not a project commitment.
Who this is for
- Businesses outgrowing spreadsheets, shared inboxes or off-the-shelf tools.
- Operations teams that need a CRM, back office or internal platform with roles and reporting.
- Companies launching a customer-facing web application with specific workflows.
When this is the right fit
- Your team spends real time on workarounds: re-keying data, chasing status in email or reconciling spreadsheets.
- The process is specific to your business or industry, so templates keep missing it.
- Different people need different access, and you need to know who changed what.
- You have already tried configuring a standard tool and the gaps are well understood.
What we build
Customer-facing web applications
Responsive products with real UX engineering, built for speed and clarity.
CRM and internal software
Systems to manage customers, operations and records, with permissions that follow your organisation.
Admin dashboards and reporting
Views that show the numbers your team needs and keep a history of who changed what.
Industry-specific platforms
Software for workflows that no template covers, shaped around your process.
Replacing spreadsheets and manual work
Moving fragile spreadsheet processes into a system that enforces the rules.
What you get
- A written description of the workflows, roles and records the system covers.
- The application deployed to production, with user accounts set up for your team.
- Reports and exports for the figures your team currently assembles by hand.
- An audit trail of changes to important records.
- The source code and setup notes, plus help moving existing data across from spreadsheets or older systems.
Build, buy or hybrid?
Buying is often the right answer. The question is where the gaps are.
Off-the-shelf software
If a mainstream CRM, project tool or industry package covers most of your process, configure it. You get support, updates and integrations without building anything.
Low-code or no-code platforms
Good for simple internal forms and workflows with few users. Complex permissions, large data volumes and unusual logic tend to push against their limits.
Custom build
Makes sense when the process is a competitive advantage, when licences or workarounds cost more than the build, or when you need the data model and rules to be exactly yours.
Hybrid
Keep a standard tool for the commodity parts and build the missing piece, connected through its API. This is often the smallest and safest custom project.
When not to hire us. We are probably not the right choice if a configured standard tool would solve the problem, if the process is still changing week to week and not yet understood, or if you want the lowest possible licence cost rather than a system fitted to you.
What affects the cost of custom software
We do not publish prices, because cost follows scope. These are the drivers that move it most.
Workflows and user roles
The number of processes the system covers and the number of kinds of user, each with their own access.
Permissions and audit trail
Fine-grained access rules and a history of who changed what take more design and testing than a single shared view.
Data migration
The volume and quality of data in spreadsheets or older systems. Messy source data is the most common cause of extra work.
Integrations
Each tool the system must exchange data with adds mapping, testing and failure handling.
Reporting and dashboards
The number and complexity of reports, exports and views your team relies on.
Who uses it
An internal tool for a small team differs from a customer-facing application that must handle public traffic and work on many devices.
Hosting, security and compliance
Where data must live and which regulations apply change the design.
Rollout approach
Releasing in stages, starting with the costliest workflow, spreads effort and lets you adjust. Training and support are agreed separately.
Buying versus building
Compare a licence with a build over the same period, such as three to five years, including the workarounds the licence leaves you with, not only the first invoice.
How we work
We start from how the business runs, define the experience and architecture, then build and verify the working system, testing critical flows and permissions before launch. We prefer to release in stages, starting with the workflow that costs the most time, so your team uses real software early and shapes what comes next. Data from spreadsheets or older systems is cleaned and migrated as part of the project, not left as an afterthought.
What we need from you to start
- A walkthrough of the current process, including the spreadsheets, inboxes and tools involved.
- A list of who uses the system and what each role may see and change.
- Examples of the reports and records the business relies on today.
- Existing data we may need to migrate, and where it lives.
- A decision-maker for the process, plus a few day-to-day users willing to test early versions.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a custom software development company?
- A company that designs and builds software around one organisation’s process instead of selling a packaged product. StackEndBox is a product engineering company that does this: we scope the system, build and launch it, then keep improving it with you.
- How much does custom software cost?
- It depends on scope, and nobody can give an honest figure without one. The drivers are listed under “What affects the cost of custom software”. The most reliable way to control cost is a staged release that starts with the workflow costing your team the most time.
- How do I choose a custom software development company?
- Ask what the first release includes, who owns the code and accounts, how the work is staged, who does it and what support follows launch. Lists of top companies are compiled by directories using their own criteria, so use them as a starting point and check what each company can show about work like yours.
- Why build custom instead of buying a tool?
- When your process is specific, a tool you bend to fit can cost more in workarounds than software built for the job. When a standard tool covers most of it, buying is usually better, and we will say so.
- Can the software connect to tools we already use?
- Yes. We build integrations so the new system works with your existing tools and data.
- Can you take over or improve an existing application?
- Yes. We can review what exists and make it stronger, or tell you plainly if a rebuild would be cheaper than repair.
- Can a small business commission just one workflow or a Next.js application improvement?
- Yes. Start with one team, the current bottleneck and the result they need. We can scope a bounded workflow or review an existing React/Next.js application instead of proposing a full replacement. Agree the supported stack, migration boundary, testable milestone and operating handover after reviewing the existing system. A framework choice alone does not establish performance, security or commercial value.
- Who owns the finished software?
- Ownership and access terms are agreed as part of the project scope before work begins, including the code, the data and the hosting accounts.
- Is our business data safe in a custom system?
- We design access by role, keep credentials out of the code and record changes to important records. Where the data is stored and who can reach it is agreed with you; tell us early about any regulatory requirements.
- Can you migrate data from our spreadsheets or old system?
- Usually. We assess the data's quality during scoping, because messy source data is the most common cause of delay.
- Can we start small and add to it later?
- Yes, and we recommend it. A first release covering the most painful workflow lets your team give feedback before more is built.
- Do you provide support after launch?
- We can continue to maintain and extend the system under a separate arrangement agreed with you.
